Australian Museum: Burra – Case Study

Follow the Burra (Eel).

A learning journey for the youth, through interactive sight and sound.

This exciting new state-of-the art exhibition opened its doors in July 2022, becoming a permanent experience within Australian Museum. The educational space immerses the youth into Western science and First Nations knowledges.

Trace the incredible migration of Burra along visual estuaries and rivers, across rockpools and out to sea. Following this life-cycle of this surprisingly resilient fish, children learn about the Australian environment, the Australian Museum’s science, and the importance of caring for Country.

Location: Darlinghurst, NSW

Autex Cube

The consistent feature of this exhibition is the Burra (Eel), rippling across the exhibition ceiling, guiding visitors to every part of the life-cycle. VISIONCHART collaborated with a key supplier in the industry to install this unique acoustic centre-piece.

CNC cut into thin slices of PET Panel and grooved, the pieces were able to bend and ripple across the ceiling, replicating the motions and anatomy of an Eel. Being the forefront of the exhibition, the Acoustic Burra had to be executed perfectly and blend with the space.
