What people are saying about eBeam ...
eBeam V Mimio
"While I found both products fun and useful once I got the hang of them, I prefer eBeam by a slight margin because it's 2 soap bar size sensors are more portable and seem sturdier than Mimio's single retractable bar; it also captured notes more reliably.
Mimio is a comparable value that's helped by it's superior feature set, but I found it less reliable and somewhat inconvenient to handle"David Essex - Computerworld

FAQ's
(Frequently Asked Questions)
Q : Do
I need to use special pens ?
A :eBeam uses 'standard' whiteboard pens which slide into an
electronic sleeve. Whilst the pens are standard they do have to be a certain
brand. That is, the Sanford 'Expo' marker, bullet point. Item Code
88074 for re-ordering. These are available from most office supply
companies. Please email us
if you have difficulties in sourcing.
Q : What
size whiteboard can I use with eBeam ?
A :eBeam works on any whiteboard (magnetic or non magnetic)
from 900mm W x 600mm H to 2400mm W x 1500mm H. You can fit eBeam onto
a larger board but it will only record information on the 2400 x 1200mm
area. eBeam will also work on Visionchart Deluxe
Flipcharts as well.
Q : Do I have to buy extra licenses for the eBeam software
?
A :No. The eBeam software is available to anyone ... free !
So it can be installed on a network with unlimited users ... or you can give
it to your friends.

Q : I
want to install eBeam in our meeting room ... but there's no computer in the
room !
A : eBeam can be 'plugged into' your nearest PC. If the computer happens
to be in another room, we would suggest running the serial cable through
the wall or ceiling (quite often your nearest computer is close anyhow).
eBeam comes supplied with a USB cable 5 metres long. Tests have
showed "no loss of signal or image degradation" when the cable has been extended
even up to 25 metres ! Once eBeam is connected to the nearest computer, everything
you write on the whiteboard is saved to that computer.
Q: Will
eBeam work over a network ?
A :Yes, eBeam works with Windows NT/2000. In this way,
any saved meeting can be viewed by anyone connected to the network (and with
NT, you have high levels of password enabled security ... so that your meeting
can remain confidentail if required). Also, eBeam allows you to save
your whiteboard meeting in Adobe PDF or HTML files ... so that it can be
shared across your network
Q : Will
eBeam run on a Apple computer ?
A : Yes. eBeam is supplied with PC or Mac software.
And eBeam has USB as well
Q : Can
I print in colour ?
A : Yes. eBeam is connected to your computer via a serial
cable. If that computer is connected to a ink jet style printer ...
then everything you write on your whiteboard can be printed in colour (or
black and white .. if connected to a laser printer) ... NEW !
Q : What
formats can I save my whiteboard notes in ?
A : Lots ! Excitingly you can save in HTML for publishing
to the internet (or corporate intranet) and also Adobe PDF. In both these
formats Mac users can view everything from the meeting !
Also you can save
in JPEG, GIF, TIF, EPS and BMP
Q : How
does eBeam know where I'm writing ?
A : A Sanford pen slips into an eBeam digital pen stylus.
This stylus is powered by 2 small batteries (CR2032's). When you write on
the whiteboard, the whiteboard pen emits a very faint electronic buzz. This
buzz is 'received' by the 2 eBeam sensors and by triangulating ... can place
the position of the pen to it's exact location. The pen also emits
an (invisible) infrared signal that doubly ensures accuracy.
eBeam complies
with Class B Conformity. Compliance Test Report #M91026A1, dated Oct 26, 1999.
Q : How
long do the batteries last ?
A : The batteries are readily available CR2032 style batteries
(used in clocks etc). Generally around 90 hours. We recommend that batteries
should be taken out of the pen stylus if you are not using them for some
time. Also, the batteries can be activated accidentally when the cap
is on.
Your local eBeam
supplier can supply the batteries ... for around $2.50 ea. It's best
to keep a few in stock for that important meeting. When storing batteries,
ensure that they don't touch ...as this may create a 'short' ... and reduce
their life.
Never substitute
other batteries as this may cause an explosion.
Q : I've
installed eBeam ... and nothing has happened !
A : There are several things to note during installation :
